School description
The English School in Nicosia is a selective secondary school established in 1900 by an Anglican clergyman, Canon Frank Darvall Newham. Initially, it catered only to the children of the British rulers of Cyprus but later expanded to include Cypriot students. The school has a rich history and has undergone various changes.
It started as a boys-only institution and began admitting girls in 1957. The school is known for its rigorous academic standards and bi-communal nature, educating Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Most of its graduates go on to attend universities in Great Britain. The school campus is one of the largest in Cyprus, with extensive sports grounds and facilities.
